Pastoral & SHEPHERDING CARE

Jeremiah 3:15
And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Life can be difficult and we all need spiritual or physical help sometimes. For the Christian these needs are often met by those we are in fellowship with - our Missional Community, a D-group, or friends we know from the church community may come alongside us. Other times our needs may be a bit more than our friends can handle on their own. God has gifted particular people within the body of Christ to help within these extraordinary times. At New City we desire to be the kind of church that doesn't shy away from difficult circumstances - but rather one that is willing to enter in and come alongside those who are in crisis, mourning, or need.

The Shepherd Elders

New City Church is committed to identifying and ordaining those men who are qualified for elder leadership. A few of these men will serve on the Elder Leadership Team - a committee of our Session that is charged with the day-to-day leadership of the organization. The rest of our elders are committed to Shepherd Leadership - coming alongside the people of our congregation especially those who are in particular spiritual need.  The main work of the Shepherd Elders is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry.

The Deacons

New City Church is committed to identifying and ordaining those men who are qualified for deacon leadership. These men are charged with overseeing the physical needs of the church and the people in our congregation - especially the widows, the fatherless, and those who have extraordinary needs. The main work of the Deacons is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry.

The Shepherding Care Team

The Shepherding Care Team exists to assist church leaders in the pastoral care (spiritual & mercy) of men, women, and their families. The primary objective is to be a bridge between a person who is struggling and their church, to serve in crisis or challenging seasons with a goal of transition of care to ministries within the church and/or support from outside of the church. Our Shepherds are mainly non-ordained women (but occasionally non-ordained men) with pastoral gifts who are vetted and trained to come alongside ordained leaders under the oversight of pastoral leadership.
